Putnam Materials Corp.

Patterson, NY

Putnam Materials Corp. is a limestone quarry and has been actively operated by PII since the late 1960s. In the early 1970s, a crushing plant was installed to allow the facility to crush and size the stone. Much of the stone produced from this plant was sold as roofing and decorative stone due to its bright white color. A series of conveyers to stockpile finished product were installed in the 1990s, leading to improved plant efficiency.

Marble is a metamorphic rock formation that occurs when limestone is subjected to the heat and pressure of metamorphism. Marble is primarily formed from the mineral calcite (CaCO3) and marble formations usually contain minerals such as clay minerals, micas, quartz, pyrite, iron oxides, and graphite. Marble that is broken down into crushed stone is primarily used as an aggregate in highways, railroad beds, building foundations, and other types of construction. It makes a strong, cohesive and durable subbase material. The aggregate carries a white / white-grey color.

Putnam Materials Corp.’s unique white aggregate being used as a subbase in a recent project.
